this
line ~ refugee chic ~ grew out of need and inspiration.
having
evacuated new orleans with only two days worth of clothes, i actually
had a legitimate excuse to thrift.
but
no sewing machine!
the
result, as andrea perkins, names it, is "refugee chic."

found
at a great thrift on hwy 319, this oversized slinky number quickly lost
its waggin sleeves, its round neck, and its wide body.

the
pinstriped pants were a treasure in the "free" box outside
the church's thrift store in Eastpoint, FL.
with a quick clip of the scissors, these highwaist old mama pants
became hip huggers.

i
don't even remember where i got this top, it's so old. i want to say
that great thrift in lexington, ky that organizes the clothes by color.
nonetheless, the long sleeves and round neck had to go to make it usable
again.
it works well with the shell jewelry i've been busy crafting during
my refugee e-vac(u)ation.

combined
with a wrap-around skirt (unmodified) that i picked up in olomouc,
cz republica this summer and the pin-striped pants (of course!), this
piece challanges all fashion rules regarding print and color combination.
